Project Overview
Architectural Emporium worked closely with our clients, the consultant team and planners to create a new sustainable compact home within an existing coach house. the front facade had to be retained due to it being within a conservation area, but a creative approach was taken to internal alterations and rear additions with 3 zinc and glass additions featuring a mixture of glazed and green roofs.

“Toby and his team at Architectural Emporium proved to be very good at taking our piecemeal ideas for the refurb and developing them into a functional and stylistically coherent scheme that we could afford. And they made the process very enjoyable. Throughout the process they listened, came up with excellent options and suggestions and were flexible when budget or circumstances required a change of tack. They managed the planning process and the project effectively on our behalf - always giving us the time and information we needed to make the required decisions.”

A side porch invites you into the property, where you access the atrium. Centrally a new core was introduced with a blue stair leading up to a blue metal bridge linking the two bedrooms and bathroom, but also allowing light into the hall below. A rear extension comprises the kitchen and dining room overlooking the garden, where a new volume is added as a garden workspace.

Solar panels and batteries serve the property providing sustainable energy to the well-insulated upgraded thermal envelope. Spaces are flooded with natural light from rooflights, existing windows and new openings. Rooms are designed to feel distinct and characterful but a coherent approach to colour and generous and unusual ceiling heights runs through the house, providing a spacious generosity that belies the footprint of the property.
